Jerusalem. Ahead of his maiden visit to India, Israeli Parliament Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana has said that the perpetrators of the heinous Mumbai terror attack of 2008 must pay a heavy price and the fight against terrorism is a common concern for both the countries. Ohana, a close confidante of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, will be visiting India on his first official foreign trip after assuming office in December last year.
His four-day visit will begin on March 31. Terming terrorism as a common concern, Ohana, a former official of Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security agency), said that all progressive countries need to come together to combat it. Ohana said both India and Israel face the problem of terrorism and have a joint fight against it.
We all remember the heinous terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008, in which over 207 people were killed, 178 of them Indians, Ohana said. Unfortunately, Israelis and Jews were also among the foreigners killed.” He said, this attack was not only on India but also on Jews and free people of any place. He said it was an attack on the shared values of India and Israel.
Ohana said, whoever conspired and sent the terrorists on behalf of the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, should be made to pay a heavy price. He said that the fight against terrorism is a necessity for all free countries, especially two countries like India and Israel. He said that shared values, concerns, pains and immense potential in the strategic partnership underpin the ties between the two countries.
Ohana said, “When I had to decide where to go on my first official trip as Knesset Speaker, India was the most interesting choice for a variety of reasons. He said that India is an important developing power and there are many things in common with Israel and no Knesset chairman has visited India so far. During his visit to India, Ohana along with his counterpart Om Birla will sign a cooperation agreement between the Parliaments of the two countries. A delegation will also travel to India along with Ohana. The delegation included President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and External Affairs Minister S.K. Will also meet Jaishankar.
