‘Mutual trust and respect’ the strongest and biggest foundation of India-Australia relations: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the strongest and biggest foundation of India-Australia relations today is ‘mutual trust and mutual respect’ and the credit for this goes to every overseas Indian and Australian citizen living in Australia. A suburb was renamed ‘Little India’ on the occasion of Modi’s visit, reflecting the strong ties between the two strategic partners. Prime Minister Modi, in the presence of his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese, also announced the opening of the Indian Consulate in Brisbane while addressing the Indian diaspora at the Kudos Bank Arena here.

The event was attended by around 21,000 people who came from different parts of Australia. During this, excited people also raised slogans of Modi-Modi. Speaking on the occasion, Albanese said wherever Modi went, he was greeted like a ‘rockstar’ and none of the legendary singer Bruce Springsteen was treated like it is today. Describing India as a “force for global good” and a “shining star” of the world economy, Modi said, “Wherever disaster strikes, India stands ready to help.” Recently, when the earthquake caused devastation in Turkey, India extended a helping hand through Operation Dost.

He said that the strategic partnership between India and Australia is continuously deepening. “We expect bilateral trade between the two sides to more than double in the next five years after the signing of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement last year,” Modi said. Working on an economic cooperation agreement. We are building flexible and reliable supply chains. This will give impetus to the business of both the sides and give new confidence to the world.

Beginning his address with the ‘Namaste Australia’ address, Modi said there was a time when India-Australia relations were defined by the ‘Triple C’ ie Commonwealth, Cricket and Curry and then it was said that both The relations of the countries are based on ‘Three D’ i.e. Democracy, Diaspora and Friendship. Modi said that some people also said that India-Australia relations are based on ‘Three E’ i.e. Energy (Energy), Economy (Economy) and Education (Shiksha). He said, “Sometimes ‘C’, sometimes ‘D’ and sometimes ‘E’. The extent of historical ties between India and Australia is much larger than this. The truth is that the real depth of the relationship between the two countries goes beyond C D and E.

The Prime Minister said, “The strongest and biggest foundation of this relationship is actually mutual trust and mutual respect and it has not grown out of India-Australia diplomatic relations alone. The real reason for this is every Indian living in Australia… The real reason for this is more than 2.5 crore citizens of Australia. Lifestyle may be different but now yoga also connects them. He said that both the countries have been associated with cricket since long, but now tennis and films are also connecting them. Modi said when Australian spin bowler Shane Warne passed away, millions of Indians were also sad.

He said that there has been an increase in the number of flights between the two countries and the number of flights will increase further in the future. The Prime Minister said that both countries have moved forward in recognizing each other’s degrees and students from both the places will be of great benefit. Modi said that the ‘Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement’ has also been agreed between the two countries and this will make it easier for Indians to come to Australia and work here. Referring to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) describing India as a bright spot in the global economy, Modi said according to the World Bank, if any country is facing global challenges, it is India.

He said, “India has made record exports even in the most challenging times.” The Prime Minister said that India has no dearth of potential and no dearth of resources. “Today, the country which has the world’s biggest and youngest talent factory…is India,” he said. “Whether it is leading a solar alliance, building disaster-resilient infrastructure India has always acted as a binding force for various countries around the world.

Modi thanked Albanese for supporting him in laying the foundation stone for the Sydney suburb of ‘Little India’. Harris Park is a center in western Sydney where the Indian community celebrates festivals and events such as Diwali and Australia Day. Modi said, “Thank you my friend Anthony. Referring to Springsteen’s performance at the Kudos Bank Arena in 2017, Albanese said at the event, “The last time I saw Bruce Springsteen on this stage, he didn’t get the same reception as Prime Minister Modi.” Prime Minister Modi is the boss.” Springsteen, 73, is fondly called “Boss” by his fans.
