Navalny Death Case: America pledges ‘comprehensive sanctions’ on Russia

[ad_1]

The White House said Tuesday it plans to impose additional “sweeping sanctions” on Russia over the death of opposition leader Alex Navalny.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that additional sanctions on Russia could be announced next Friday. However, he did not share further details about what form these restrictions would take.

America and its allies have imposed several sanctions on Moscow after Russia attacked Ukraine. Kirby said the United States does not know how Navalny died, but ultimate responsibility lies with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

At the same time, Lyudmila Navalnaya, mother of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, on Tuesday appealed to President Vladimir Putin to intervene and hand over her son’s body to him.

Lyudmila Navalny appeared in a video in the Arctic region where Navalny died. “Vladimir Putin, I appeal to you,” Navalnaya said in a video posted on social media by Navalny’s team. Only you can resolve this matter. Let me see my son’s body. I demand that the body be given to me immediately, so that I can bury it with dignity.
