Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif got confused about the name of Chinese President Xi Jinping in a public program on 9 December. While speaking on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he referred to Xi Jinping as ‘Xi Ping’. Referring to CPAC, Sharif said that the Chinese President then stops speaking for a while. Sharif then took the wrong name of the Chinese President and said that Xi Ping said that Mr. Nawaz Sharif CPAC is a gift from China to you.
He also revealed the reason behind his removal from the post of PM in 1999. Sharif said he was removed by then General Pervez Musharraf for opposing the Kargil war. He also stressed the need to have good relations with India while addressing party workers in Lahore on 9 December, as he believed it was important to have good relations with India.
Sharif said that during my tenure as Prime Minister, two Indian Prime Ministers visited Pakistan. Modi Sahab and Vajpayee Sahab had come to Lahore.
