Nepal earthquake: Injured have been admitted to foothills hospital, some may be sent to India

As search and rescue operations continue in western Nepal’s mountainous Jajarkot district, which was hit by a powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake on Friday night, authorities have shifted many of the injured to hospitals in the foothills and airlifted some of them to India. This is the nearest big hospital to Jajarkot. A large number of loved ones of the injured gathered outside the emergency department of Bheri hospital. When ‘PTI’ correspondent visited the emergency and general ward of the hospital, there were many patients who had broken bones of arms or legs. Nodal officer and cardiologist Dr. Vipin Acharya told PTI that the emergency ward of the hospital is full of patients. He said, “Among the people brought here, one elderly person died and the condition of two is critical.” Meanwhile, local mayor Prashant Bisht, who was present at the hospital, said that his team has reached here to help the families and relatives of those injured in the earthquake. The mayor also said that some of the injured have been referred to Surkhet.
“The earthquake affected a lot of remote villages,” he said.It is difficult to reach here so quickly and hence we hope that more injured can be brought here tomorrow. Our local administration is assisting the hospital in dealing with the situation and helping the injured. “Whenever we get more people, some of them can be referred to Kathmandu and some to Lucknow (in India), so that the burden of patients on a single hospital does not increase,” he said. We are planning to airlift them.
