Kathmandu: Unfazed by the all-round attacks from the opposition parties in Nepal, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda is going to sign a big energy deal with India. Officials of both the countries will sign a long-term energy deal next week. Earlier, there was an agreement between Prachanda and PM Modi to buy 10,000 MW electricity from Nepal within the next 10 years. Regarding this, on June 2, there was an initial agreement between the Energy Secretaries of Nepal and India. Earlier, former Prime Minister KP Oli, who danced at the behest of China, tried to corner Prachanda regarding his visit to India and raised questions about power agreements. According to the report of the Kathmandu Post, lack of time and no approval from the cabinet of both the countries Due to this, the final agreement could not be signed. Now both the parties have completed the necessary process and the agreement is ready for signing. It is being told that there can be a formal agreement on June 18. India is investing heavily in Nepal’s hydrocarbon sector. India is going to sign Phukot Karnali and Lower Arun hydro-electric projects with Nepal.
Oli attacked Prachanda
KP Oli raised questions on both these projects. Oli had alleged that Prachanda gifted two rivers of Nepal to India at the price of peanuts. He also claimed that when he was the Prime Minister, he had decided to develop the Phukot Karnali project on his own. However, later the Nepali media revealed that Oli himself had made a deal with India on the hydroelectric project regarding these two rivers. Due to this, Oli’s secret was exposed.
India and Nepal have formed a mechanism on trade and water resources, apart from hydropower. After Prachanda’s visit, relations between India and Nepal have become very good these days. On the other hand, the opposition parties of Nepal are not liking this. Sometimes an attempt is being made to target PM Prachanda regarding the border dispute on the issue of unbroken India. A former Prime Minister of Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai, had even given India a jackal in the Akhand Bharat controversy.
