Following the transit of the first batch of imported goods through China in September last year, Nepal exported the first batch of goods through China on January 25 under the framework of the China-Nepal Transit Transport Agreement.
Among the goods exported from Nepal to Japan that day are mainly instant noodles which will be transshipped through Tienchin port. Narayan Prasad Sharma Duwadi, Secretary of the Nepalese Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, while delivering a speech at a ceremony in this regard, said that China’s continued exports to third countries will open up new spaces for cooperation through economic flexibility and innovation that will provide vitality. While giving a speech, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song said that China is actively promoting bilateral trade between China and Nepal. The belief is that with the opening of more land ports and the renovation and upgrading of roads and other infrastructure, the time and cost for Nepal to import and export goods through China will be further reduced.
Let us inform that China and Nepal signed the Transit Transport Agreement and Protocol of Agreement in the year 2016 and 2019 respectively, which allowed Nepal to transit through 4 sea ports and 3 land ports of China. In early September last year, 15 tonnes of turmeric powder imported by Nepal from Vietnam reached Nepal’s capital Kathmandu through Tienchin port and Changmu-Tatopani port.
