Recruitment in the Indian Army is over!
While Russian citizenship is a big draw for Nepali youth, another reason is the end of their recruitment in the Indian Army. Relations between Nepal and India came under strain last year when the Indian government replaced long-term employment with short contract tenures and no pension. This happened under the Agniveer scheme. A few weeks later, Nepal halted the 200-year-old recruitment process till then. He made it clear that until there is more clarity on this, Gurkhas will not be included in the recruitment.

Many such videos are surfacing on social media in which Nepali Gurkhas are shown taking military training in Russia. Quoting a Gurkha retired from the Nepal Army, the diplomat wrote that he was working as a security guard in Dubai when he was lured to Russia with more lucrative offers. He traveled to Moscow as a tourist and joined the army at a Russian recruitment centre. Now the requirement of knowledge of Russian language for the recruitment of Russian foreigners has also been abolished. During the Ukraine war, Russia has started giving many benefits to Wagner.
