Talking to reporters here, O’Farrell said the situation arising out of the Hindenburg Research report on the Adani group has to be looked into by the Indian regulators and there is no report of the group closing its Australian business.
Australia’s High Commissioner to India Barry O’Farrell on Monday said the Adani group operates a successful business in his country and remains the largest Indian investor. Talking to reporters here, O’Farrell said the situation arising out of the Hindenburg Research report on the Adani group has to be looked into by the Indian regulators and there is no report of the group closing its Australian business.
Responding to a question about the Adani group, O’Farrell said, “Gautam Adani’s investments in Australia are in full swing and providing clean energy and resources like coal.” I haven’t seen any reports that they have ceased operations in Australia. He is still an important investor in Australia investing from India. Gautam Adani-led Adani Group also operates coal mines and solar power projects in Australia apart from a port terminal.
The Australian High Commissioner said that the Adani Group is probably India’s largest investor in Australia. He said, “They have successful businesses in Australia. In countries like India and Australia that have economic cooperation agreements, people themselves decide to invest in or buy companies based on their own interests. The government does not get involved in these matters.” However, he refused to answer a question whether Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who is visiting India from Wednesday, would meet Adani.
