Seoul: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited the country’s major munitions factories. He also ordered a massive increase in the production of missiles and other weapons. The country’s official media gave this information on Monday. Kim’s order comes just days before South Korea and the US began annual military drills. North Korea sees both these countries as a threat to itself. Kim’s promotion of weapons production in the country is a matter of concern.

America’s concerns increased
US officials believe the Russian defense minister recently spoke with North Korea about selling more weapons to Russia for its ongoing war with Ukraine. Because of this his order is troubling. The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Kim visited factories producing strategic missiles, mobile launch platforms, armored vehicles and artillery shells on Friday and Saturday.

KCNA said Kim also visited the missile factory during which he aimed to “drastically boost” the production capacity so that the factory can mass-produce missiles to meet the needs of forward military units.

North Korea preparing for war
According to the report, Kim said, “The level of war preparedness depends on the development of the munitions industry and this factory plays a very important responsibility in speeding up the war preparedness of the (North) Korean People’s Army.” It said Kim called for the manufacture of modern missile launch trucks in visits to other factories. KCNA said Kim also drove a new combat armored vehicle.
