North Korea fired missile into the sea between US and South Korea maneuvers

North Korea launched a short-range ballistic missile into the sea on Sunday. The neighboring countries of North Korea gave this information. North Korea has ramped up its testing activities in response to joint military exercises between the US and South Korea. North Korea views these military drills as exercises to attack it. South Korea’s ‘Joint Chiefs of Staff’ said in a statement that the missile fired from North Korea’s northwestern region fell into the waters off the country’s east coast.

He said that South Korea’s military has increased vigilance and is maintaining close coordination with the US. Earlier, Japan’s Defense Ministry said that North Korea fired a suspected missile on Sunday morning. It said the suspected weapon fell outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, but there were no immediate reports of damage in the area. This is the third weapon launch by North Korea since the start of joint military drills between South Korea and the US last week.

Joint military exercises between South Korea and the US will continue till Thursday. North Korea believes that this military exercise is a preparation for an attack on it. However, the US and South Korea maintain that their exercises are of a defensive nature. North Korea, demonstrating its military power, recently launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Hwasong-17. North Korea’s state media quoted the country’s leader Kim Jong Un as saying that the purpose of the ICBM launch was to “instill fear in the mind of the enemy.” A day before the start of joint military exercises between the US and South Korea North Korea test-fired a submarine-launched cruise missile.
