Seoul. North Korea said Friday it tested long-range cruise missiles off its east coast a day earlier. Later the South Korean army also confirmed this. North Korean state media said the tests were aimed at verifying the quick response capabilities of the weapons handling unit and the reliability of the missiles.
The test came as the US and South Korea held an exercise in Washington aimed at bolstering their preparedness to deal with North Korean nuclear threats. Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency said the four missiles flew for about three hours after being launched off the northeastern coast, showing they were capable of hitting 2,000 kilometers away.
