Now US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo will visit China as the Joe Biden administration seeks to mend deteriorating relations between the world’s two largest economies. Raimondo, who joins US President Joe Biden’s cabinet, promises to be ‘pragmatic’ without compromising the US effort to ‘responsibly’ manage the economic relationship. Raimondo plans to meet with Chinese officials and US business leaders in Beijing and Shanghai in an effort to encourage “to promote healthy competition, to compete on an equal footing, to play by the rules.”

Before leaving Washington on Saturday, she told reporters, “I am also very realistic and clear about the challenges. These challenges are important.” His visit will end on Wednesday. The minister said she wants to take actionable, concrete steps where both countries can take commercial relations forward. He also gave some details about it. One point of discussion is the promotion of Chinese people’s travel and tourism in the US. Raimondo recently spoke of easing restrictions on large Chinese groups visiting the US. Raimondo’s trip, like Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s trip to China last July, is intended to demonstrate the administration’s willingness to partner with China on economic development at a time of growing tensions over foreign policy and national security.

Washington is simultaneously strengthening alliances with Japan, South Korea, Australia and the European Union. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a two-day visit to Beijing in June, the highest-level meeting in China in five years. Blinken met with President Xi Jinping and the two agreed to stabilize US-China relations, but could not agree on better communication between the two armies.
