Mumbai, March 08 (HS). Those going to visit Nepal and do business will no longer need to carry Indian currency Rupee. They will be able to make payments easily through UPI in Nepal also. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Friday said that the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) is now available in neighboring Nepal as well.
The official statement issued by NPCI on ‘X’ post said that UPI users can make payments to Nepali merchants by scanning QR codes. According to the statement, in the first phase, Indian consumers will be able to make fast, secure and convenient UPI payments at various merchant stores in Nepal using the UPI-enabled app. Merchants included in the PhonePe network can take UPI payments from Indian customers.
According to a statement from NPCI, National Payments International Limited (NIPL) and @fonepay Payment Services Limited have announced that UPI is now live for cross-border transactions between India and Nepal. This partnership will enable Indian consumers to make quick, secure and convenient QR code based UPI payments at select merchant locations in Nepal using UPI-enabled apps.
NPCI said that this milestone not only symbolizes a successful partnership between the two payment system operators but also marks a new era of digital connection and cooperation between the two friendly countries.
In fact, in September last year, an agreement was signed between NPCI International Payments (NIPL) and Nepal’s largest payment network PhonePe Payment Service. Under this, payment through UPI has started in the neighboring country Nepal. Complete information related to this is also available on.
