Islamabad: Pakistan’s Lieutenant General (Retd) Amjad Shoaib has been arrested by the Islamabad Police on Monday on charges of inciting people against national institutions. Geo News reported that policemen from Ramna police station arrested the former army officer from his residence in Islamabad. FIR against Lt Gen (Retd) Shoaib under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups, etc.) and 505 (statements causing public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on February 25 at Ramna police station in Islamabad was registered.
Filed on the complaint of Islamabad Magistrate Owais Khan, the former army officer incited people to revolt against institutions and the nation through his controversial statements made on a TV show, reported Geo News. I tried to incite unrest and anarchy and create a law and order situation in the country. It states that Lt Gen (Retd) Amjad Shoaib, through his comments and analysis, has instigated government servants in the performance of their official duties. His controversial advice to people, government employees and an opposition party is aimed at promoting enmity between people. The FIR states that the former army officer’s statement is part of a “well-planned conspiracy” to weaken the country, Geo News reported. Lt Gen (Retd) Shoaib was earlier summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appear on September 7, 2022 after he claimed about a meeting between the Pakistani Prime Minister and an Israeli team. However, he failed to appear before the cybercrime wing of the FIA.
