Imran Khan may have been accused of serious allegations, but the security agencies should have kept in mind that he is the former Prime Minister of the country and the president of a party. Due to what is happening with Imran Khan, there is also a possibility of worsening the situation in Pakistan because Imran’s supporters will not keep quiet. Last year when Imran Khan was fatally attacked while he was taking out a rally and a few months ago when the police laid a cordon outside his house to arrest Imran Khan, the situation in Pakistan had worsened. Now the rude arrest of Imran Khan, assault on his lawyers and supporters shows that Pakistan’s politics has derailed. Its economy was already derailed.

In his rally, Imran also targeted former President Asif Ali Zardari and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto. Imran Khan said at a rally on Saturday that ISI officer Major General Faisal Naseer was plotting to kill him. Imran Khan had alleged that Major General Faisal Naseer, the ISI officer who twice tried to assassinate him, was involved in the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif. Let us remind you that Arshad Sharif, who was critical of the army, was murdered in Kenya in October last year. He had fled the country citing threat to his life from the security agencies. Police in Kenya shot an investigative journalist, killing him. Kenyan police said in their initial report that the 49-year-old man was shot dead in his car due to mistaken identity.

Reacting to Imran Khan’s allegations, the Pakistan Army condemned Imran Khan for “highly irresponsible and baseless” allegations against a serving ISI officer without any evidence. The strongly worded statement by the army’s media wing ‘Inter-Services Public Relations’ (ISPR) also said that Imran Khan’s “fabricated and malicious allegations are highly unfortunate, condemnable and unacceptable”. The statement said that for the past one year, it has been observed that officers of the army and intelligence agencies are being targeted and castigated for political purposes. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan for “defaming and threatening” the military and intelligence agencies.
