Islamabad : Cyclone Biparjoy may hit the coast between KT Bunder in Sindh province and Gujarat on June 15 (Thursday). The cyclone is fast moving towards Pakistan and was 310 km from Karachi on Wednesday night. An alert issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department on Wednesday said the cyclone was about 310 km south of Karachi, 300 km south-southwest of Thatta and 240 km south-southwest of Keti Bunder.

The alert said that the wind speed can go up to 180 km / h and maximum waves of 30 feet high can rise in the sea. The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of collision between KT Bandar and Gujarat coast on the evening of 15 June. According to the department, during June 14 to 17, there is a possibility of strong thunderstorms, rain and heavy destruction in Sindh’s Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot districts. Strong winds with a speed of 80 to 100 km/h can blow in these areas.

According to Dawn news, winds with a speed of 60 to 80 km/h and strong thunderstorms are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar districts from June 14 to 16. The forecast said that the Hub and Lasbela districts of Balochistan may also receive heavy rains. Pakistan’s Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman said that the cyclone is moving away from Karachi as it is moving east. He warned that it was coming closer to the coastal areas.

He cautioned that both thunderstorms and rain are expected and could cause significant damage. He appealed to the people, especially in Karachi, to avoid going to the beach to watch the storm and to cooperate with the authorities. Rahman has linked the cyclone to climate change as a result of human activities rather than nature. He said, ‘Pakistan has become a hotspot of climate change.’
