Panjwar was killed on May 6 when he was attacked by some gunmen during his morning walk in Lahore. The attack happened close to his house. Panjwar, 63, was declared a terrorist by India in July 2020 under the UAPA law. Born in 1960 in a village in Tarn Taran, Panjwar was a prominent face of Khalistan in Pakistan. For a long time, he was living in Lahore and carrying out his activities from there itself.

In January 2020, Harmeet Singh alias Happy PhD was shot dead near Lahore. All of them are accused of violence in the name of Khalistan. Ripudaman Singh Malik, 75, was shot dead on June 15, 2022, in Surrey, Canada.
Malik and co-accused Ajaib Singh Bagri were acquitted in 2005 of charges of mass murder and conspiracy related to the 1985 bombing of Air India Flight 182. 329 people were killed in this incident. Malik was associated with the Babbar Khalsa.
