first villain general ayub khan
Pakistan’s army and its generals have played a big role in trampling Jinnah’s dreams. Ayub Khan’s legacy was first carried forward by Zia-ul-Haq, then by Pervez Musharraf and now by General Asim Munir. Pakistan was born in the year 1947 and only 11 years later the country saw a coup for the first time. Ayub Khan was in charge of Pakistan’s army. In October 1958, the then President Iskandar Mirza abolished the constitution and declared martial law. After this, the command of the country came in the hands of General (Retd) Ayub Khan.
Ayub said goodbye after 11 years
Ayub Khan ruled the country for 11 years and left power in 1969. In the midst of the coup, the first war between India and Pakistan broke out in 1965. Pakistan had to face defeat at the hands of India in this war. It is another matter that even today he refuses to accept the defeat he got in this war. After this, again in 1971, the Indo-Pakistani war took place and again the Pakistani army had to face defeat. The constitution of Pakistan was approved on 10 April 1973, two years after recovering from the war. With this, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was elected the Prime Minister of the country.
General Zia turned villain in 1977
After 15 years there is hope that the country will move forward with the help of constitutional power. But this could not happen. In 1976, Bhutto elected Zia-ul-Haq as the new army chief of the country and from here the situation started deteriorating again. General Zia again staged a coup in 1977 and martial law was imposed. The democratically elected PM was hanged on April 1979. Zia-ul-Haq ruled the country till 1988. After a plane crash, Zia-ul-Haq’s rule ended in the country and then elections were held.
Democracy came back in 1988
In 1988, Bhutto’s daughter Benazir won the elections and it seemed that now Pakistan would change. But nothing like this happened. Bhutto became the first woman prime minister and ruled. But after 11 years history repeated again. This time General (retd) Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan Army became the villain. After the defeat in the Kargil war in 1999, Musharraf put the then PM Nawaz Sharif in jail. There was a coup in the country and Musharraf became the master. Musharraf ruled the country till 2008.
Pakistan is broken once again
Elections were held in Pakistan in the year 2008 and this time power came into the hands of Benazir’s husband Asif Ali Zardari. Musharraf accepted his defeat and showed commitment to work with the new parliament. Yusuf Raza Gilani became the PM of the country and democracy was restored in the country. Ever since Imran Khan lost power in the year 2022, the situation in Pakistan is uncontrollable. Now with his arrest, this country is once again seen on the path of destruction. It seems that this time in the year 2023, the Pakistan of Jinnah’s dreams has been completely shattered.
