Pakistan Crisis: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan will no longer appear on TV. Yes… The organization responsible for monitoring the electronic media of Pakistan has banned the telecast of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s “live (live broadcast) and recorded” speeches on TV channels with immediate effect. A few hours before this, the sword of arrest was hanging on Khan in the Toshakhana case, although he escaped citing his presence in the court on March 7. He then gave “provocative speeches against government institutions”.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, while addressing party workers outside his house in Zaman Park, Lahore, said that he has never bowed down to any person or institution. He also targeted the leaders of the ruling parties alleging that they have stashed their assets abroad and have been protected in legal matters by former Pakistan Army Chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa.
baseless allegations through statements
The Pakistan Electronic Media Control Authority (PEMRA) cited previous instructions instructing all licensees to “refrain from airing any material against government institutions”. The authority said that Khan, in his speech, has made baseless allegations against government institutions and officials through his provocative statements and delivered hate speeches which are prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order.
Violation of order broadcasting such speeches
PEMRA said that telecasting such speeches is in violation of the Constitution and the orders of the Supreme Court. He warned the TV channels that their license could be suspended for non-compliance. This is not the first time that PEMRA has banned telecast of Khan’s speeches on TV channels.
