‘We are a member country of the IMF, there are no beggars’
A Pakistani official said, ‘We are a member country of the IMF, not beggars, if they consider us as such, then terminate our membership.’ Talking to Dawn, another official said that the situation in the country has become like 1998, when the economic crisis deepened after the nuclear test.
Staff level agreement expected this week
Meanwhile, the Pakistan administration is hopeful that talks with the IMF team can be held again next week. With this, staff level agreement can be agreed upon. IMF says that in the current financial year, Pakistan needs at least $ 7 billion to overcome the crisis. At the same time, the State Bank of Pakistan says that at present the country’s foreign exchange reserves are $ 3 billion, which can increase to $ 10 billion by June this year.
