Islamabad : On one hand Pakistan is standing on the verge of default. The country’s inflation rate is the highest in 45 years. People do not have money even for basic things like food and drink. But there is a part of the people in the poor country who are spending their money in drinking expensive coffee from Tim Hortons. Craze for coffee is being seen so much that people are standing in long queues near the outlet. It may sound strange but a video surfaced from Kangal Pakistan will shock everyone. In several videos and pictures that surfaced earlier, the crowd was seen scrambling for flour and food.

In the video, a long queue can be seen outside the famous Canadian coffee shop. When Tim Hortons opened its first outlet in Lahore over the weekend, a crowd of people gathered there. Pakistan’s economy is currently in a bad state. As of February 9, its foreign exchange reserves have come down to $3 billion. Pakistan’s currency (PKR) has fallen to a record low. The prices of petrol and diesel in the country are burning the pockets of the people.

Pakistan’s coffee shop made a record

The standard of living of the people in Pakistan is going down. Despite all this, Pakistan has made a global record with Tim Hortons. Since its opening in 1964, Pakistan has recorded the highest opening sales ever in its history. The Pakistani franchise of the Canadian coffee brand surpassed all 5,352 outlets worldwide in terms of sales. Sharing a video of a long queue at the outlet, a Pakistani journalist wrote, “On one side poor Pakistanis queue for flour, on the other side rich Tim Hortons queue for coffee.”

8 million people dying of hunger…

Another user wrote, ‘This is the country where 8 million people are lying in the open and are dying of hunger due to floods. This is a country whose Prime Minister is begging before the IMF, who has money left to pay for only two weeks of imports. If reports are to be believed, the second and third Tim Hortons stores will open in Gulberg and Lahore on February 18 and 25 respectively. The world’s fifth most populous country is on the brink of default.
