FBR is buying luxury vehicles in the name of providing convenience to Pakistani taxpayers. Official documents show that the estimated cost of the vehicles is equivalent to 8.6 per cent of the funds that the FBR has set aside to upgrade its hardware and software, The Express Tribune reported. Planning to buy ‘luxury’ cars

FBR has submitted documents for Investment Project Financing (IPF) of Rs 19.6 billion under the World Bank’s $400 million project (PRR). A closer look at these documents reveals that FBR is planning to buy 155 vehicles ranging from 1500 cc to 3000 cc. The agency has termed this engine capacity as a ‘luxury’. FBR has not given any information about the use of these vehicles in the documents.

FBR asked for 19.6 billion rupees

FBR has requested Rs 19.6 billion. Out of this, a major and significant part of Rs 1.63 billion or 8.6 per cent will be used to buy these vehicles. If reports are to be believed, the planning ministry had opposed the purchase in a recent meeting. FBR has estimated that each vehicle will cost around $47,000, or Rs 1.03 crore. However, the total cost of the procurement could exceed Rs 1.63 billion.
