Imran Khan News: The Lahore High Court will hear the Toshakhana corruption case against Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan today. At the same time, a case of treason has been registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Imran Khan along with all the prominent leaders of the party.
Criticism of the government or its organizations in Pakistan is sedition
According to the agency Business Recorder, criticism of the government or its organizations is considered sedition. It is said that criminalizing remarks made against the government in Pakistan is a law introduced by the British rule in 1860. This rule remained in Pakistan till last 30 March. Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court changed this law while hearing a public interest litigation. The court issued a brief order striking down Section 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which stated that whoever, by words either spoken or by signs, brings into hatred or contempt the federal or provincial government tries to. He shall be punished with imprisonment for life or with fine which may extend to three years.
Imran Khan got relief from the court
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court of Pakistan on Thursday extended the interim bail in a total of 8 riot cases. The court has extended the bail of Imran Khan till 18 April. However, Imran Khan was not present in the court during the hearing on the bail plea. A bench headed by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amer Farooq has given relief to Imran Khan.
There was a clash during the hearing in the Toshakhana case
It is noteworthy that on March 18, there were clashes outside the court premises when Imran Khan arrived from Lahore to attend the hearing in the Toshakhana corruption case. During this, more than 25 security personnel were injured during the clash between PTI workers and the police, after which Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal adjourned the hearing of the matter till March 30.
