Islamabad. A special court in Pakistan has adjourned the hearing on bail applications of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his close aide Shah Mahmood Qureshi following their arrest in a case related to declassification of classified documents. The court adjourned the hearing pending the Islamabad High Court’s decision on a petition challenging its jurisdiction. The purported diplomatic document contained details of a meeting last year between US State Department officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Donald Lu of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and Pakistani Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan.

The scope of investigation against Imran Khan has increased after the publication of an alleged copy of this document by the American media organization The Intercept. Several leaders of the previous Shehbaz Sharif-led government have pointed fingers at Khan for the document leak. Qureshi (67), a close aide of jailed former prime minister Khan and vice-chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, was on August 19 booked under the Official Secrets Act for violating the confidentiality of an official document sent to the Foreign Office by the Pakistani embassy in the US. was arrested under Qureshi was the foreign minister when the diplomatic document was sent.

A special court here has adjourned the hearing of the post-arrest bail applications of Khan and Qureshi in the diplomatic documents case till the Islamabad High Court takes over the jurisdiction of the trial court, The Express Tribune reported.
