Pakistan PM Election: Shehbaz Sharif and Omar Ayub Khan filed nomination papers – Dainik Savera Times

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) joint candidate Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council candidate Omar Ayub both filed nominations for the post of Prime Minister of the country. Letter has been filed. The nomination papers were received by the Secretary of the National Assembly.
To be elected Prime Minister, a candidate must receive 169 votes in the 336-member Parliament. According to reports, PML-N and its allies including Pakistan Peoples Party claim to have the support of more than 200 MPs. Whereas, in the February 8 election, independent candidates supported by Imran Khan’s PTI won the most MPs with 93. Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected as the 22nd Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) on Friday.
Raja Pervez Ashraf chaired the National Assembly (NA) session to elect the new NA Speaker. According to ARY News report, Sunni Ittehad Council (sic) protested during the entire session. The speaker was elected through secret ballot. MPs voted one by one.
PML-N candidate Ayaz Sadiq got 199 votes, while Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC)’s Aamir Dogar got 91 votes. After the formal announcement by Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq took oath as the next speaker of NA.
