The matter comes days after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him in the Toshakhana case. Police officers waited at his Lahore residence to arrest the cricketer-turned-politician.
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been booked on charges of murder and terrorism after one person was killed and several others injured at a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf rally. The matter comes days after a non-bailable warrant was issued against him in the Toshakhana case. Police officers waited at his Lahore residence to arrest the cricketer-turned-politician.
A PTI worker was killed and over a dozen party supporters were injured during clashes with the police on Wednesday. A pro-judiciary rally started outside Khan’s residence, police also fired tear gas shells and used water cannons, while activists pelted stones. According to an FIR, 11 police officers were injured in the clash. Along with Khan, 400 others have been booked, with the police also arresting over 100 PTI workers. Top party leaders and former ministers such as Fawad Chaudhry, Farooq Habib, Hammad Azhar and Mahmudur Rashid have been named in the FIR.
The PTI chief has been in the crosshairs for buying gifts from state depository Toshakhana at a discounted price – including an expensive Graff wristwatch that he had received as prime minister and sold them for a profit. Last week, a non-bailable warrant was issued against the former PM after he missed the third indictment hearing in the case. When the police were called outside his residence, the security personnel were told that Khan was not available. The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday suspended the non-bailable arrest warrants till March 13.
