Pakistan has rejected UK Home Secretary Swela Braverman’s remarks about British-Pakistani men as “discriminatory”. Braverman told Sky News last week that British-Pakistani men “do not live up to British values in terms of cultural outlook”. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mumtaz Zehra Baloch responded to Braverman’s comments, saying he painted a highly misleading picture intended to target British Pakistanis differently and treat them as such.
Bloch said that the British Home Secretary equated the entire community by misrepresenting the criminal behavior of some individuals. “She (Braverman) has failed to recognize institutional racism and the tremendous cultural, economic and political contribution of British-Pakistanis to British society,” he told a press conference here. During the interview, Braverman referred to the British government’s plans to deal with child sexual abuse, saying that British-Pakistani men do not live up to British values in terms of cultural attitudes.
He said, (British-Pakistani men) look down on women in a low, illegitimate way, and take an outdated and frankly heinous view of our behaviour. Braverman made the comment despite being told that a 2020 Home Office report suggested that most gangs of child sexual abusers are white males under the age of 30 and that there is not enough evidence to support this That the number of Asian or black people in such gangs is high.
