Import of 84 percent petroleum products
Pakistan is now looking for new ways to meet its energy demands amid dwindling gas reserves and a sharp jump in international oil prices. Pakistan, the world’s fifth most populous country, has been facing energy crisis for a long time. Pakistan imports 84 percent of its petroleum products, for which it is dependent on Gulf Arab allies such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The country will import 154,000 bpd of oil in 2022, according to data from analytics firm Kpler.
Paid in Chinese currency?
Pakistan’s Minister of State for Petroleum Mussadiq Malik said on Monday that Pakistan has paid for subsidized Russian crude oil in Chinese currency. In a press conference on Tuesday, he declined to divulge the terms of the oil deal with Russia because of confidentiality agreements signed by the parties, the report said. Malik said, “Pakistan has imported 1,00,000 tonnes of crude oil from Russia.”
