Pakistan: Sharif’s party PMN-N released manifesto, emphasis on bringing the country’s economy back on track.

Focus on getting Pakistan’s economy back on track, giving a message of peace to India, resolve to tackle climate change and zero tolerance policy towards terrorism are the main points of the manifesto released by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s party on Saturday. ‘Dawn.com’ quoted the manifesto as saying that at a time when general elections are to be held in the country on February 8, with less than two weeks left, the manifesto of Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) included India. It has been promised to send a message of peace to other countries. The manifesto also said that a message of peace would be sent to India on the condition that New Delhi withdraws its August 2019 move on Kashmir. India has told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir is an indivisible and integral part of the country.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has previously reiterated that the abrogation of most of the provisions of Article 370 by the Parliament of India in 2019 is entirely a matter for India as well as its Constitution. The manifesto also promises to tackle the impacts of climate change and a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. PML-N’s other agenda includes a secure water future and revitalizing the economy through exports. Released at a special event here in the provincial capital of Punjab, the PML-N later shared a detailed manifesto titled ‘Give Pakistan Nawaz’ on its official ‘X’ account. Dawn newspaper reported, “If voted to power, the party has pledged to provide cheap electricity to the public and more power supply as well as rapid development.

Its promises include 20 to 30 percent reduction in electricity bills, increase in power generation by 15,000 MW and production of 10,000 MW of solar power. “The party has pledged to ensure youth representation in national politics through Parliament, provincial and local governments and also said it aims to restore student unions, expand the National Youth Scheme, develop information technology start-ups, Allocate funds for and enhance youth entrepreneurship. It also promised to establish Pakistan’s first sports university and 250 stadiums and academies along with youth skill development. The manifesto plans to bring about constitutional, legal, judicial and administrative reforms; combating violence against minorities; Apart from modernizing agriculture and liberating women, bringing a new labor policy to ensure their rights has also been mentioned.

Other promises include abolishing the National Accountability Bureau and bringing comprehensive amendments to the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 and the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898 to standardize procedural laws. According to ‘The News International’ newspaper, the manifesto also states that if the party comes to power, court proceedings will be telecast live. Sharif called it a strange coincidence that despite his removal from the post of Prime Minister in 2017 and political vendetta against PML-N, his party members are preparing to contest elections once again and present their manifesto.

The three-time former Prime Minister also said that he neither intends to express his grievances nor is he in any mood to complain today. Criticizing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which formed the government after the 2018 elections, Sharif said Khan’s rule broke the backs of poor people through inflation and power cuts. Sharif claimed that there was never any power cut during his rule. Recalling the previous tenure of PML-N, Sharif also said that there was no inflation at that time.
