Justice Bandyal is considered close to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. That’s why the ruling coalition wants to postpone the election till his retirement. The source also ruled out extending the term of parliament, contrary to indications given by some leaders of the ruling coalition in the past.

“We will not move beyond August 13,” the source said. The term of the current National Assembly ends on August 13. It was also said that going beyond this date would mean that the ruling coalition would suffer politically. The National Assembly may be dissolved in July, but in any case not in June, if the PDM and PTI continue the talks to reach an agreement on the election date, the source was quoted as saying.
