Pakistan Vs Iran: Dough wet in Kangali! Iran warns Pakistan for 18 billion dollar fines for delay in pipeline project amid economic crisis
[ad_1]
According to reports, Iranian officials recently told a Pakistani delegation that the gas pipeline agreement should be completed within a year. Iran has already completed its part of the project from the gas field to the Pakistan border. This agreement between neighboring countries Iran-Pakistan was done in 2009 when PPP was in power in Pakistan. According to the agreement, Islamabad will build the 800 km long pipeline but the project has been delayed continuously for 13 years.
Iran had warned in 2019 itself
Over the years, Pakistani officials have informed Tehran that they cannot go ahead with the project because of US sanctions. According to the agreement, Iran cannot go to any international court due to delay till 2024. In the year 2019, Iran warned Pakistan to approach an arbitration court for not laying the pipeline in Pakistani territory within the stipulated time period under the IP Gasline Project.
Pakistan’s flour wet in Kangali
Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to complete the project but only after international sanctions against Iran are lifted. Iran’s threat of $18 billion fine on Pakistan comes at a time when it is going through its worst economic phase in history. Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are about to end and the public is under the burden of inflation. The Shahbaz government is standing before the IMF for a loan, which in turn is pressurizing them to take many anti-people decisions.
