Pakistani woman crosses Wagah border to marry Kolkata boy

After Seema Haider, another Pakistani woman, identified as Jawaria Khanum, is set to cross the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar on Tuesday to marry her fiance Sameer Khan, who hails from West Bengal. The couple’s story has captured the attention of many, highlighting the enduring power of love that knows no limits. Currently, the family of Sameer Khan, living in a village in Gurdaspur, is waiting for his arrival. After crossing the border, both the families are planning to go to Kolkata for the couple’s wedding ceremony following Islamic traditions.
Initially, Jawaria Khanum faced obstacles in her quest for an Indian visa. However, with the unwavering support of a Punjab-based social worker, they got a 45-day visa, paving the way for their union. The couple intends to extend their visa after their wedding ceremony.
Punjab-based journalist Gagandeep Singh revealed that the couple has been together for five years and are planning to get married in early 2024.
Cross-border marriages between India and Pakistan, although not uncommon, often attract public scrutiny. This is not the first high-profile cross-border union. Earlier, Seema Haider, a Pakistani woman, had crossed the Indian border with her four children to marry Sachin Meena, an Indian man from Noida. Their relationship attracted significant media attention, both positive and negative.
Similarly, Anju, now Fatima, had gone to Pakistan to marry her Facebook friend Nasrullah. On his return to India through the Wagah border, he was interrogated before being taken to Amritsar airport.
