Sharif said his country was determined to play its role in furthering shared values of peace and stability in the region. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari arrived in Goa on Thursday to attend a conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This is the first such high-level visit to India from the neighboring country since 2011.
Bhutto Zardari’s visit comes amid continuing strain in ties between India and Pakistan over a number of issues, including Islamabad’s continued support to cross-border terrorism. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Sharif tweeted, “Pakistan’s decision to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers’ meeting in India reflects our “commitment” to the SCO charter and multilateralism.” The opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party “strongly condemned” Bilawal’s visit to India, saying that his participation was possible through video conference as well.
“The visit shows that the government has no sympathy for Kashmiris,” former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan told reporters at the Islamabad High Court complex. PTI leader Shireen Mazari tweeted, As I pointed out earlier, the ‘imported’ foreign minister is eager to go to Goa to show his loyalty to the ‘Bajwa plan’ to appease the US on Israel and India.
