Period for exchange of Rs 2000 notes extended, now notes can be exchanged till 7th October

Mumbai (Uttam Hindu News) – RBI has extended the deadline for exchange and deposit of Rs 2000 notes. This deadline has been extended from 30 September to 7 October. In May, the Reserve Bank had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 note. In a statement issued by the Reserve Bank, it has been said that after the end of the new deadline i.e. from October 8, the process of depositing/exchange of Rs 2000 bank notes will be stopped.
RBI has given this information through press release. Through a press release, RBI said that after the process of withdrawal of Rs 2000 note was over, based on its review, it was decided to postpone it further. In such a situation, its deadline has been extended till October 7. RBI said that these notes will remain legal tender. Earlier, on May 19 this year, RBI had issued a circular asking to deposit or exchange Rs 2000 notes in banks by September 30. According to the data received from banks, as of May 19, 2023, a total of ₹ 2000 notes worth Rs 3.56 lakh crore were in circulation. Out of this, till September 29, notes worth ₹ 3.42 lakh crore have been returned. Now only ₹0.14 lakh crore worth notes are in the market.
