Basilan Governor Jim Hutman Soliman said that the death toll in the incident was 31. According to him, after the fire, it was first learned that 13 people had died in this incident. Later 18 more bodies were found. Basilan’s governor said that many of the rescued people jumped off the ferry “MV Lady Mary J2” in fear of the fire. They were retrieved from the sea with the help of the Philippine Coast Guard, the Navy, another ship and local fishermen.
It is not clear how many people were traveling on the ferry. The official said that there were not a large number of people on board the boat. A total of 230 people, including 35 crew members, have been rescued from the boat, the Philippine Coast Guard said. Coast Guard chief Commodore Richard Marfe said the fire caused panic among people traveling on the boat.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control on Thursday morning. The burning boat was towed back to shore. Where Coast Guard personnel and local officials found 18 more bodies. The Philippine Coast Guard shared a photo of the incident. In which “MV Lady Mary J2” ferry has been set on fire.

About 5,000 people died in this incident.
