On August 28, China released a new map showing India’s eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin region within China’s borders. In a new map released by the Ministry of Natural Resources, China has shown the so-called ‘nine-dash line’ covering the entire South China Sea along with territorial claims on its western borders. A ‘tenth dash’ has been placed east of Taiwan, underscoring Beijing’s claims on the island. Apart from this, China has also claimed the sea area of ​​Malaysia and many areas of the Philippines by including them in its map.

Expressing strong opposition to the so-called map issued by China, India had lodged its objection through diplomatic channels. India rejected China’s claims and called them baseless. Also said that such steps from China will only complicate the resolution of the border issue. Now voices of protest have also been raised from the Philippines, Taiwan and Malaysia. The Foreign Ministry of the Philippines has termed China’s efforts as a violation of international laws and an attack on the sovereignty of the Philippines. Philippines has also taught China to live within international limits.

Malaysia has also rejected China’s unilateral claim on its maritime territory. The statement issued by Malaysia said that China’s map has no binding effect on Malaysia. Malaysia maintains its position of rejecting any foreign party’s claims of sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over Malaysia’s maritime features or maritime territory based on the 1979 map.

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Taiwan is a sovereign and independent country. China has never ruled Taiwan. This is a fact and status quo generally recognized by the international community. No matter how the Chinese government distorts its claim to Taiwan’s sovereignty, it cannot change the objective fact of our country’s existence.
