New Delhi Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will co-chair with his Canadian counterpart Mary Ng the 6th India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) in Ottawa, Canada on Monday.
Let us tell you that MDTI is a bilateral mechanism, which provides an institutional mechanism to discuss a wide spectrum of trade and investment related issues and cooperation areas. The dialogue will focus on a variety of topics, including strengthening bilateral trade ties between India and Canada, investment promotion and cooperation, green change – discussions on critical minerals and new areas of cooperation such as promoting B2B engagement.
The Minister will also review the India-Canada CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) negotiations. In the last MDTI meeting in March 2022, the two ministers had launched CEPA talks with the possibility of having an interim agreement or EPTA (Early Progress Trade Agreement). Since then seven rounds of talks have taken place.
Goyal will also visit Toronto from May 9 to 10, where he will have several programs to promote trade and investment. These events will include meetings with CEOs of leading Canadian companies, meeting of Indian and Canadian CEOs, interactions with Canadian and Indian companies based in Canada and financial sector meeting among other meetings.
