An Indian student allegedly attacked in the United States pleaded for help on Sunday, saying he was attacked and robbed by four men who kicked and punched him. His wife, who lives in Hyderabad, has written a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar requesting assistance in his treatment. A video of Syed Mazahir Ali, a master’s degree student at Indiana Wesleyan University, with his face bleeding profusely and asking for help, has been widely shared on social media, along with a CCTV clip showing a The man is being chased by three people with their faces covered.
His wife Syeda Rukulia Fatima Rizvi, in a letter to Jaishankar, said that she received a call at 6 pm on February 4 from her husband’s friend that Mazahir Ali was brutally attacked and robbed near their residence in Chicago. However, she later contacted her husband, she said. She requested the Minister to assist her in her husband’s treatment and for assistance in making travel arrangements for her and her three minor children to join her in the US.
In the video, a terrified Mazahir Ali described the harrowing experience as he was left with blood on his forehead, nose and mouth. I was going on the road with food, when four people caught hold of me and beat me with kicks and punches. Someone also took my phone. In another video clip of his interview with a media house, he said that this is something which I cannot forget. He pointed the gun at me. I have two wounds on my head. According to surveillance footage from a neighbour’s CCTV, the attackers jumped out of the car and waited for a victim, the report said.
