Islamabad. Pakistan’s acting Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar on Thursday announced a ban on New Year celebrations in the country to express solidarity with the people of Gaza. In a brief address to the nation, Kakar urged his countrymen to show solidarity with the Palestinians.
He said, “In view of the gravely worrying situation in Palestine and in order to show solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, the government imposes a strict ban on all kinds of events organized to celebrate the New Year.” Kakar said that since the Israeli bombardment began on October 7, Israeli forces have “exceeded all limits of violence and injustice and killed more than 21,000 Palestinians, including approximately 9,000 children.”
He said, “The entire Pakistan and the Muslim world is deeply saddened by the massacre of innocent children and unarmed Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.” Kakar said that Pakistan has sent two aid packages to Palestine and the third package is being prepared. . He said Pakistan is engaged in talks with Jordan and Egypt to provide timely aid to Palestine and evacuate the injured present in Gaza.
