Prime Minister Narendra Modi has collaborated with Grammy Award winning Indian-American singer Faloo for a song to highlight the benefits of millets and their potential to reduce world hunger. The song ‘Abundance in Millets’ is sung by Mumbai-born singer-songwriter Falguni Shah and her husband and singer Gaurav Shah. Shah is known as Falu. This song will be released on 16 June. On India’s proposal, the United Nations General Assembly has declared the year 2023 as the ‘International Millet Year’. “Prime Minister Modi has written this song along with me and my husband Gaurav Shah,” Faloo told PTI ahead of its release. She said the song, written in English and Hindi, is meant for everyone. will be made available to the public and will highlight the benefits of millets. Falu and Gaurav Shah will release the song ‘Abundance of Millets’ on June 16, 2023, on the occasion of ‘International Year of Millets’, which will also feature Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, read a statement on Falu’s website.

He said he had discussed with Modi the power of music to bring about change and uplift humanity, during which the Prime Minister suggested him to write a song with the message of ending hunger. Falu said that since music is not bound by boundaries, Prime Minister Modi suggested writing a song on coarse grains. He said Modi told him that millet is a very nutritious food and very beneficial for health. Falu said that she very “naively” asked the Prime Minister if he would co-write a song with her, to which he agreed. He informed that the song, which will be released in English and Hindi, will also be translated into other regional languages to ensure wider reach. Falu said she was initially nervous about writing a song with the Prime Minister, but the whole process went smoothly. He said, “It is a different thing to write for him (Prime Minister Modi) and a different thing to write with him. In between the songs, you will hear a speech written by him and delivered in his voice.” Falu said it was a great “honour” for him to co-write the song on coarse grains with Modi. He said that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for an artist.
