Hiroshima: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday left for Papua New Guinea on the second leg of his three-nation tour after visiting Japan for the Group of Seven (G7) summit. Modi met many world leaders in Hiroshima and discussed many global matters with them. Modi is the first Prime Minister of India to visit Papua New Guinea. “After a successful visit to Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has boarded a flight to Papua New Guinea on the second leg of his three-nation tour,” the Ministry of External Affairs tweeted. Modi at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida But reached Hiroshima on Friday to participate in three sessions of the G7 summit.

PM Modi tweeted, “The visit to Japan was fruitful. Met several leaders during the G-7 summit and discussed various issues with them. Grateful to Prime Minister Kishida, the Government of Japan and its people for this warm gesture.” The G7 members are the US, France, the UK, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan. This group represents the richest democracies in the world. Under its chairmanship, Japan had invited India and seven other countries as guests in this conference.

PM Modi has met several world leaders including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Japan. Modi also attended the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) summit in Japan with US President Joe Biden, Kishida and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. This is the third such summit of the Quad in which the leaders met face-to-face. Modi also proposed that the next summit of the Quad leaders be held in India in 2024.

The Prime Minister will reach Moresby in Papua New Guinea on Sunday. There he will jointly host the 3rd Summit of the ‘Forum for India-Pacific Islands Co-operation’ (FIPIC) with James Marpe, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea. Modi had earlier said, “I am grateful that all 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) have accepted the invitation to attend the FIPIC Summit.” Will travel to Australia from 24 to 24 May. Modi will have a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Australia on 24 May. He will interact with CEOs of Australian companies and business leaders at a community event in Sydney and also address members of the Indian community.
