Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Qatar concluded on Thursday. He said that India is ready to increase cooperation with the Gulf country in key areas like trade, investment, technology and culture. The visit came days after the Qatar government released eight former Indian Navy personnel who were sentenced to death after their arrest in August 2022. This was the Prime Minister’s second visit to Qatar. Earlier he had reached Qatar in June 2016.

PM Modi held talks only with the Emir of Qatar

PM Modi went to Qatar after concluding his two-day visit to UAE

PM Modi reached Doha on Wednesday night after a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This was the Prime Minister’s second visit to Qatar. Earlier he had reached Qatar in June 2016. In December last year, Prime Minister Modi had met Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on the sidelines of the ‘COP 28’ summit in Dubai and discussed the welfare of the Indian community in Qatar.

On October 26, a Qatari court had sentenced former Navy personnel to death.

The former Navy personnel were sentenced to death by a Qatari court on October 26. The Gulf country’s appellate court had commuted the death penalty on December 28 and sentenced the former navy personnel to prison terms varying from three years to 25 years.
