Polio program team was targeted in Pakistan, 5 policemen died on the spot

Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper quoted Bajaur police spokesman Israr Ahmed as saying that the deaths of all five policemen were confirmed.
Five police officers were killed and 22 others were injured in an explosion targeting a police vehicle in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Officials said the policemen were on their way to provide security to polio vaccination teams at the time of the attack in Bajaur district. Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper quoted Bajaur police spokesman Israr Ahmed as saying that the deaths of all five policemen were confirmed.
Medical Superintendent of Khar District Headquarters Hospital, Dr. Wazir Khan Safi said that out of the 22 injured, 12 were being treated at Khar District Headquarters Hospital. He also said that 10 other seriously injured people have been referred to a hospital in Peshawar. Malakand Division Commissioner Saqib Raza said the polio campaign in the area has been suspended after the blast.
Caretaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Justice (retd) Arshad Hussain Shah condemned the blast and wished speedy recovery of the injured. Dawn quoted him as saying that such cowardly incidents will not demoralize the police.
