Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday launched a portal and mobile app for tracking and certification of spurious seeds with an aim to curb the sale of spurious seeds. According to a government statement, Tomar introduced the portal and mobile app named SAATHI (Seed Traceability, Authentication and Holistic Inventory). It is a centralized online system for seed tracking, certification and storage. It is designed to address the challenges of seed production, quality seed identification and seed certification.
It has been developed by NIC in collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture on the theme Uttam Beej-Samrudh Kisan. Tomar said that the Center through various schemes and programs is making constant efforts to overcome the challenges and difficulties faced by the agriculture sector. He said that Saathi portal is an important step in this direction and will prove to be a revolutionary step in the field of agriculture. The Minister said that the first phase of ‘Saathi’ portal has just been launched. He directed the officials to ensure that the second phase does not take much time. He said that efforts should be made to increase awareness so that farmers can get full benefit of it.
