Possibility of formation of coalition government in Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif can become the next Prime Minister – Dainik Savera Times

Islamabad: In Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif is considered almost certain to become the country’s new Prime Minister with the alliance of major political parties led by him easily crossing the majority mark to form the next government and with this the fractured results found in the elections. After the mandate, the speculations regarding the future of the government will end.

Shehbaz Sharif met Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) on Tuesday night at the residence of Shujaat Hussain of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Agreed on government formation. Expressing gratitude to other leaders present at the meeting, Sharif said, “Today we have come together to tell the country that we have accepted a fractured mandate.” I am grateful to Zardari and Bilawal (Bhutto) that they have decided to support Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

PML-N Information Secretary Maryam Aurangzeb said party supremo Nawaz Sharif has nominated party president and his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif (72) for the post of Prime Minister of the country. He informed that PML-N senior vice president Maryam Nawaz has been nominated for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab. He said, ‘Nawaz Sharif has expressed his gratitude to the political parties who have supported PML-N in forming the next government and expressed hope that such decisions will bring Pakistan out of the crisis.’

Shahbaz, who became Prime Minister in April 2022 after ousting the Imran Khan-led government, said other parties have joined hands with the PML-N which has “almost two-thirds majority” in Parliament after the elections. He also said that the new government will bring the country out of trouble. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, the total number of seats won by six parties – PML-N, PPP, MQM-P, PML-Q, IPP (Istiqam-e-Pakistan Party) and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) is 152. All of them have announced their plans to form a coalition government under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif.

This clearly shows that after getting additional 60 women and 10 minority seats, these parties will easily achieve the required figure of 169 to form the government at the Centre. However, it remains to be seen whether these parties will achieve the magic figure of 224 which is required for two-thirds majority in the 336-member National Assembly. Reacting to the latest political developments, jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party said the best option for the PML-N was to “accept its defeat graciously” and his party. PTI founder Imran Khan has to “bring the country out of the crisis.” In the elections held on February 8, independent candidates won 101 seats, most of which were candidates supported by PTI.
