Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Sunday met former prime ministers, foreign ministers and leaders of various political parties and discussed matters related to his upcoming visit to India. Prachanda will leave for India on a four-day official visit on Wednesday to hold talks with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and other leaders and further strengthen the age-old, multifaceted and cordial ties. This will be his first bilateral foreign visit after assuming office in December 2022.

Information and Communications Minister Rekha Sharma said, “The preparations for the official visit of Prime Minister Prachanda to India have reached the final stage. The agenda for the yatra will be finalized in the meeting of the Council of Ministers to be held on Monday. He said that various ministries are preparing the agenda for the yatra. “During the Prime Minister’s bilateral talks in Delhi, topics ranging from energy cooperation to the border issue will figure,” he said. According to his aides, Prime Minister Prachanda on Sunday called on former prime ministers Jhalanath Khanal, KP Sharma Oli, Baburam Bhattarai and Sher. Bahadur Deuba separately and discussed matters relating to his forthcoming visit to India.

Similarly, the Prime Minister also held discussions with Loktantrik Samajwadi Party President Mahant Thakur, Rashtriya Swatantra Party President Ravi Lamichhane and former Foreign Ministers Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, Prakash Chandra Lohani and Bimla Rai Poudel, among others. Meanwhile, experts have advised the prime minister to take up issues related to energy cooperation, economic issues, easy access to the Indian market for Nepalese goods, including agricultural products, and trade deficit, sources said. Prachanda (68) will be accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal. He will lead a delegation of ministers, secretaries and senior government officials. He will hold delegation-level talks with Modi on June 1. The talks will be followed by a joint press conference by the two Prime Ministers. For India, Nepal is important in the context of its overall strategic interests in the region and the leaders of the two countries have often referred to the age-old roti-beti relationship.
