Paris: After a discussion on the Ukraine war at a gathering of European leaders, French President Emmanuel Macron said the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine in the future “cannot be ruled out.” It has been more than two years since Russia’s attack on Ukraine. “We will take every necessary step so that Russia does not win the war,” the French leader told a meeting of 20 European heads of state and other Western officials in Paris.
Macron said at a press conference that there is no consensus today on sending troops to the scene in an official, supported manner, but that no possibility can be ruled out in the context of the changing circumstances. The meeting was also attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish President Andrzej Duda, as well as leaders of the Baltic countries.
Macron declined to provide details about which countries were considering sending troops, saying he preferred to maintain some strategic ambiguity. Macron had earlier called on European leaders to ensure the continent’s collective security by providing unwavering support to Ukraine in the face of Russia’s tough attacks on the battlefield in recent months.
