Prime Minister Modi inaugurates modern hospital built with India’s cooperation in Bhutan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a modern hospital built with the cooperation of India in Bhutan’s capital Thimphu. Modi, along with his Bhutanese counterpart Tshering Tobgay, inaugurated the ‘Gyaltsen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital’ in Thimphu. It is a Bhutan-India friendship project dedicated to the people of this Himalayan country.
Modi, who arrived here on Friday on a two-day state visit to further strengthen India’s unique ties with Bhutan, met Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and held talks with Prime Minister Tobgay.
Bhutan’s King honored Prime Minister Modi with the country’s highest civilian award ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ at a public event here on Friday. He is the first foreign head of government to receive this honour.
Prime Minister Modi had said in a post on ‘X’ on Friday night, “It is with great humility that I accept the ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ honour. I express my gratitude to His Majesty the King of Bhutan for bestowing this honour. I dedicate this honor to the 140 crore people of India. I am confident that India-Bhutan relations will continue to grow and benefit our citizens.
Diplomatic relations between India and Bhutan were established in 1968. The basic framework of India-Bhutan relations has been the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries in 1949, which was amended in February 2007.
