Prime Minister of Pakistan will recommend to the President to dissolve the National Assembly today

Islamabad. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will on Wednesday make a formal recommendation to President Arif Alvi to dissolve the National Assembly to pave the way for the next general elections in the country. The five-year term of the lower house of parliament ends on August 12. Addressing a program in Islamabad, Sharif said on Tuesday, “I will write a letter to the President on Wednesday and recommend it to dissolve the National Assembly after the completion of the term of the present government.” After this, an interim government will take over.

President Alvi can either immediately issue a notification to dissolve the assembly and if he does not do so it will automatically dissolve after 48 hours. This is the second time that President Alvi will dissolve the assembly. Earlier in April last year, the then Prime Minister Imran Khan had recommended its dissolution. Alvi ordered its dissolution, but the Supreme Court later overturned the decision.

According to the news of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, a final meeting of the federal cabinet will also be held, in which the Prime Minister will give an account of the work done by his government since April last year. According to the news of ‘Express Tribune’, the farewell session of the National Assembly will be held at 2 pm during which the Prime Minister will address the assembly. After the cabinet meeting and the farewell session, the Prime Minister can recommend the dissolution of the Assembly to the President. Along with this, he can also meet the opposition leader Raja Riaz for the last round of talks regarding the appointment of caretaker Prime Minister.
